“Because many of my Saddlebred paintings have been commissioned works that have concentrated on show ring, under saddle and in- harness themes, my objective was to present a Saddlebred at liberty. Trotting free, this horse is a prime illustration of the high spirits and grace that typifies these horses.”

“I was intrigued by how the mare was able to focus on her foal as he stretched his legs while also being fully aware of the other distractions around her. While it is not unusual, as horses typically utilize monocular vision, I wanted to convey the foal’s feeling of freedom without having to be on the alert for danger.”
